Editing: Narrative Element

This is a selection of shots that are included as the narrative element in my video.

These shots were filmed on the 17th and 18th of February along with the forest performance elements.

Upon editing these clips I found that many of them were not the length that I had originally planned for them to be in my storyboard and animatic. A way I have got around this is by using more shots from the two performance elements and also slowed the speed of some shots down.

Throughout the video I have added two filters to every shot.

One filter that I have added to the video is a desaturation filter. I did this to remove some of the colours within the video to make it more grey and look as though it was filmed on a 'grey day'. When you put the filter on the video the video appears as black and white but I did not want to remove all colour from the video. On this particular shot I changed the 'amount' from 100 to 44. I have changed the amount of each shot to between 40 and 50.

The other filter that I added to the video is the 'Color Corrector 3-way'. This gives you the option to change the 'Blacks', 'Mids' and 'Whites' in the video to another colour. I wanted to give my video a blue tint which would also help to make it seem like a 'grey day'. I only moved the circles slightly towards the blue/turquoise part of the colour wheel as anything more would have made the video overly blue. I changed the 'Blacks', 'Mids' and 'Whites' for every shot.

For the final shot I wanted to extend the shot into a dissolve but did not want to cut into the shot itself and have the shot dissolve before I wanted it to. To get around this I took a snapshot of the final frame of that shot and added it to the timeline. I then added the dissolve transition to that image.

For the forest performance shots I added the same filters as the narrative shots. These being 'Desaturation' and 'Color Corrector 3-way'. On this particular shot however, I changed the desaturation amount to 26.

This was another shot that was not at the length originally planned in my storyboard and animatic. To overcome this I slowed the clip down which I feel adds to the shot as her hair which is part of her 'signature look' slowly goes past the screen.

Editing: Intro

These are the edited shots from the intro of my music video.

I have used the candles that I filmed with the Second performance element in December.
The clip has been reversed so that the candles are igniting rather than going out as they originally were in the clip.

As is shown in my animatic, the 'Fragile Diamond' diamond appears and then the logo and lastly the HOWL text, all in the 'diamond d' font that.

I added a video effect to the images called 'Bad Film'. This effect makes the image/text jitter around a small area and also adds grainy and scratches effects. These effects make the image/text look as though they are old or damaged/worn.

Editing: Second Performance element

Today I started the editing phase of my video's production. Because I have only filmed the second and less featured performance element, I have only been able to edit sections near the end of the video.

As predicted I have changed a few shots from the original storyboard. This includes splitting shot 50 into 2 different elements, one being the original narrative element and the other being the second performance element. The shot will begin as normal with the line 'I hunt for you with bloody feet' but will then cut to a performance shot for 'across the hallowed'. I have also split shot 58, the line 'may still become a wolf' is now a performance element and the continuing line 'when the autumn moon is bright' will remain the narrative shot that was originally planned.

There are 7 second performance elements in the video and the main forest performance element will still remain the main element and will have more shots featured throughout the video, as apposed to just being used near the end.

I hope to continue editing on the week commencing, 21st January. This should be some of the last editing needed as I hope to complete filming next week (Friday 18th) as I am just awaiting props and costume for this shoot.
